Director's Welcome to the Lee-Bardwell Public Library!
Welcome you to the Lee-Bardwell Public Library!
Our community means everything to us at the library, and it is our hope that you, as part of our community, find everything that you need when you come to us. Whether it is a book to read for pleasure or information, services if help is needed, ideas for a new hobby, or just a safe place to be with friends or by yourself, we hope that we can provide that to you.
The library is located close to the heart of downtown Gladewater, next door to restaurants, antique stores, specialty shops, and the Gladewater Museum. We have a long and unique history with the city, having opened in the 1930s in what is currently the museum. The library moved to its current location in the 1970s, and since then has served the community until February of 2021. At that time, Winter Storm Uri caused a water line break and the library flooded. After a year and a half, and because of the tenacity of Mrs. Suzanne Bardwell, the library was remodeled and reopened in November of 2022.
The library is small, but holds over 28,000 items which include not only books, but also a seed library, DVDs and audiobooks on CD. We also have regularly meeting hobby and community groups, and a monthly book club. Quarterly, we have started a home economics day, which is evolving to a children's maker space demonstration and vendor event. Recently, we have also added an unlimited online comic book site access.
We also appreciate any feedback and suggestions that you can give us. Come in and let us know what you want, what we can do to help, and let us give back to you--our community!
I look forward to seeing you at our library very soon!
Brandy Winn, Library Director
